D.N.O. was formed in 1999 in Snezhinsk (Russian Federal Nuclear Centre) and performs raw and technical death metal in the best genre canons.
The band is made up of Dmitriy Rodionov (ex-Devilry), Egor Kolenichenko, Valeriy Negrutsa (ex-Tomb), Alexander Volkov (ex-Garrota, Death Scroll) and Anatoliy Kompanets (also playing in Fatum, Garrota, Necrozzz).
D.N.O. stands for Do Not Open. The band's name bears provocative nature and has two meanings - physical action and cognition. "Do Not Open" may be interpreted as the ban on action inducement, a warning or the denial of cognition and creation, a wilful prohibition of the growth as a personality.
The spring 2006 saw the band begin recording sessions of their debut album. With only three weeks given to complete the record, each member of the band dedicates his 100% to the creative process. The main term of the recording - a completely natural performance with the minimum involvement of auxiliary elements. The general sound of the band is made as natural as possible, whilst the samples put between the songs are taken from the solo projects of Dima called "Lenin" and "I".
On April 12 the material for the debut album is ready to be released. The work on the booklet design begins. The band opts to abandon services of Vladimir Smerdulak, who created the band's logo, in favour of Irina Zyryanova who has shown herself to advantage in advertising at the time. The collaboration with the designer-publicist is hard to underestimate. This option allowed the band to avoid cliches and standards - what makes the album design look like something unusual and provocative.
With aim of promoting the upcoming album, the small box-set with the CD containing some material from the debut album and the DVD reflecting the live nature of the band is released. At the same time the terms of the upcoming album release through Mystic Empire are being negotiated. Finally, on July 1, 2006 the three-year collaboration agreement with the label is signed. The band supports Dismember in Ekaterinburg during their Russian tour, whilst year 2007 starts with the charity concert, the money from which are gathered to fund the treatment of children diseased with cancer. By autumn 2007, thanks to the common efforts of all members of the band, the first videoclip for the song "In Condition Of Moral Exhaustion" is released. The clip was shot at the slag-heaps of the coppersmelting factory in Karabash, recognised by the ecologists as one of the most polluted places on the planet.
